Inauguration Day

Today I had to take Tom for a "proceedure" at the Doctor's office at 7:30 this morning. As we drove out of the driveway, I turned to Tom and said, "Here we go!". "What do you mean, here we go, white woman?" was the quick rebuttal. "Well, I mean we are finally on our way for your proceedure". Tom turned to me and with an icey tone in his voice said," This is kind of like a ham and eggs breakfast. I'm the ham and you're the chicken. Only one of us is totally committed". "But I reminded him, what a perfect way to memorialize the inauguration". "Humpf", was all I got out of him.

In a way he was correct. All I had to do was sit in the waiting room and wait for him to come out of his anestetia. I passed the time reading Glenn Beck's new book 'The Christmas Sweater' (which is really good, by the way) and just when it was getting to a very interesting part, I was called to go back and sit with Tom as he started to wake up. Just as the nurse said he would be, he was a little disoriented and a little uncomfortable. The doctor came and told me how everything went and a nurse came by several times to check on him. Finally, it was time to go home. Slowly went made our way to the car, and the 'chicken' drove the 'ham' home. I've got him comfortably settled in bed as I post this entry. You may wonder what the 'proceedure' was that would make this inauguration day so memorable. It was a colonoscopy. Enough said!
