Just about a month ago, Rebecca and I went to Fairfield to go to the California State Board
exams for cosmetology. Rebecca had just graduated from cosmetology school in July, and wanted to get the exams over with as quickly as possible, especially important since she is expecting a baby in November. Months ago she asked if I would be her model for the exam. In preparation, she practiced cutting my hair, giving me facials, pedicures and manicures. She studied late at night for the exam as she had another job in addition to the time she spent at school. I don't know how she kept up her schedule, but somehow it all came together for her.
We decided to check into a hotel the night before as she needed to be at the testing site at 5:45 A.M.! Unfortunately, the people in the room next door to us were loud and obnoxious. I had to finally ask them to please be quiet somewhere in the neighborhood of 11:30 P.M. That and then my snoring kept her up most of the night! Poor dear, she was quite flustered before we left for the test. We said a quick prayer and off we went.
When we got there, you could see that many of the models were the moms of the candidates. One guy even brought his grandpa to be his model (which was really cute watching him do perms and manicures with polish on the grandpa). The testing was weird! We weren't allowed to speak or communicate with anyone or each other. What an odd situation! Once the testing started, Rebecca became calm and confident. Each challenge she was given she completed in such an competent and professional manner. At the end of the 4 1/2 hour test, she completed every item on the lengthy list with time to spare. The only one in her room to complete everything! I was so proud of her! Afterwards she had a written portion to take. I was not allowed in there so along with the other nervous moms (and grandpa) I waited in a special waiting room for friends and relatives. Next was waiting for the results.... and waiting...and waiting. Finally, we got the news. She passed!!! We figured only about a third of the candidates taking the test that day passed. It was truly an honor to be able to share in this special day with Rebecca.
Congratulations Becka...Lady Linda looked beautiful with her new "do"!
